Understanding Pyromania

When fire-setting is compulsive — a misunderstood impulse control disorder.

What Is Pyromania?

Pyromania is an impulse control disorder characterised by a repeated compulsion to set fires. It's driven by an internal tension relieved by fire-setting, not by financial gain, anger, or other motives.

True pyromania is rare — most fire-setting is motivated by other factors.
