Recognising When to Step Back

Signs you need a break from community support — and why that's okay.

Taking Breaks Is Healthy

Stepping back from a community isn't abandoning people — it's maintaining your own wellbeing so you can continue to show up authentically.

Even the most dedicated members need time away.

Signs You Need a Break

You feel obligated rather than wanting to participate.

Reading others' posts leaves you feeling worse, not connected.

You're losing sleep over community interactions.

You notice increased anxiety, irritability, or low mood.

You're neglecting your own needs or relationships.

Every interaction feels draining rather than energising.

How to Step Back Gracefully

You don't owe anyone an explanation for taking a break.

If you want to, a simple 'Taking some time for self-care, back soon' is enough.

Mute notifications during your break.

Set a return date if that helps — or don't.

When you come back, ease in gently.

Regular, planned breaks are better than waiting until you're completely burnt out.
